I just received word from one of our residents that a car was stolen from their driveway in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 30th. It was a 2008 Tahoe belonging to the residents daughter in law who lives in Tampa. She reports “The car was backed into the driveway facing out. The police advised that this is the easiest way to take an automobile…easy access to hood, battery and putting the auto on a truck. Their car was locked and armed – they also have ONSTAR; but by the time we realized the car was gone, ONSTAR couldn’t track it.”
Over the past few years Forest Ridge has been hit by car thieves a number of times. Many of us don’t use our garage to park our cars and we carelessly leave valuables such as cellphones, laptops, and wallets in plain view. I have been known to leave my purse in my car accidently; but I have since changed my ways.
My suggestion is simple. If you park your car in the driveway, use your garage lights to illuminate it. It might cost a few more dollars on your electric bill but it’s worth it to know that you are doing all you can to protect your car. The police have advised us that Forest Ridge is no more a victim to this type of crime than any other neighborhood; even those that are gated.
If you have any other suggestions I would love to hear about them and I’ll spread the word if you have any other type of problem you have encountered in Forest Ridge. Being informed is a good way to stay safe.
