Holly Day Parade

Marching Bands, Floats, Twirling Batons, and lots of fun for young and old alike.  That is what you’ll enjoy when the 9th annual Forest Ridge Holly Day Parade comes to town on December 6th in Forest Ridge.

This annual tradition was the brain child of Kitty Preziosi, a resident of Forest Ridge for many years.  We all owe our gratitude to Kitty who spent hours and hours of her time to bring us 8 great parades over the years.  This year two new Co-Chairmen, Rhonda Gracie and Amy  Comas – Diaz are taking over the responsibilities of organizing the parade, with Kitty by their side as consultant.

If you are interested in joining the fun and meeting a great group of volunteers,  please go to the website www.hollydayparade.com to learn more about this event.  The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 24th, details can be found on the website.

Will Forest Ridge survive another hurricane?

Forest Ridge is a community known for its beautifully landscaped entry way and lush green foilage.  fr-entrance-resized-by-photo-bucket.jpg

You will find  numerous oak trees, ferns and other natural landscaping throughout the many subdivisions in Forest Ridge.  Some of the trees have been standing for hundreds of years, while more recent plantings were provided by the developer and by the  Homeowner’s Association.

When Hurricane Wilma hit Broward County in 2005,  many of the oak trees sustained damage,  but only a few surrendered to her wrath.  Recently,  a new crop of oak trees were planted  to replace those that did not survive.  They have been tended to and cared for by the  maintenance crews of the Continental Management Group, which provides  management services for our community.

As I drive through the community on my daily route, I can’t help but wonder what is in store for us and the newly planted young oak trees as Hurricane Ike makes its way toward the Bahamas.  Will all the work taken to restore the beauty of Forest Ridge be in vain?  Time will tell.
